PACIFIC MOTHER follows champion freediver, Sachiko Fukumoto, as she navigates maternity systems for the birth of her first child and comes to the fierce realisation about the lack of choice many parents face.   Sachiko, who is Japanese and married to another champion freedriver, from New Zealand, connects with ocean women from around the Pacific, Hawai’i, Tahiti, the Cook Islands and Aotearoa New Zealand to explore traditional birthing knowledge in a post-colonial Pacific.

The desire for more traditional birthing practices in Indigenous communities has been gathering pace around the world.
